The bullfighting spirit

The Obscure Object of Desire series, an incursion into the libido.

The bullfighter with the suite of lights, represents the female energy, always
seductive. The red cape is seen by the artist as a mini-skirt, playing sensually
with the wind and capturing the imagination and desire of the male energy, the
bull.

The male energy (the bull) in his obsession with beauty, (beauty, a set up by
nature to guarantee the reproduction of the species) will always follow the red
cape, (to look what’s behind) and the reproduction game if played well will
always end up with the death of the bull.

Death is seen by most of the philosophers as the closest thing to orgasm.
During orgasm the intellect will stop functioning to give way to the seed, the
beginning of life to fecundate the female eggs, the female energy (eggs) always
winning, triumphantly standing in the ring, ready for another fight, (another
fertilization) while the bull covered by blood, lies dead in the ring, ready to be
removed from the ring.

The artist position toward bullfighting:
The artist, a vegetarian for 15 years, love animals and in no way support the
torture and , killing of the bulls in the bullfighting ring. Sierra uses bullfighting as
a satire to touch with humor the subject of the libido.

The frequent use of monkeys in some of Enrique Sierra’s paintings comes from
a monkey pet the artist family had when he was a kid. (the monkey would grab
anybodys legs and masturbate) Enrique’s family had to get rid of the monkey,
Enrique says it was sociable incorrect. His family took him to the zoo where he
very quickly found a mate. The monkey in the artist paintings represent the
uncontrollable sexual energy.
