About a hundred years ago, an admirer of François- Auguste Rodin asked the great sculptor how he makes a naked woman out of a stone. Rodin quipped that he starts with a stone and takes away everything that is not the woman.
A hundred years later, if asked by what process a naked computer screen becomes a fêted work from his “Obscure Object of Desire“ series, using technologies unfathomable in the time of Rodin, artist ENRIQUE SIERRA can now answer, “I‘ll show you.”
The result of that answer is “Mementos.”
“Mementos“, a thirty-minute video installation, takes us on a visual journey through Sierra’s eye. We follow each step of Sierra’s creative process from idea to realization. We relive the artistic metamorphosis of creation, destruction, and creation again.
The addition of an original score for “Mementos“, provides an artful coupling for the strokes on Sierra’s painting using an electronic tablet.
Combining music and art creates a new original composition in and of itself. Like the dialogue of a loving couple, with Mementos,“ the artist and the composer challenge, caress and communicate, and together, ultimately find themselves surprisingly taken to a new, enlightened dimension.
